Change is the one constant in life, and we recognise you are working through major transformational change, but it also provides a great opportunity to bring together the very best of local government services going forward.
This is an exciting opportunity for Cumberland Council to develop a Change Champions network whereby you can get involved by becoming a Change Champion to help facilitate and advocate change, role model our values by supporting your colleagues through change and improving outcomes for our customers.
You will have a key role in driving change forward by acting as a Change Champion through this major transformational change you will be developing yourself and your team to be change ready.
By joining the Cumberland Change Champion Network you will be a catalyst in the transformational change journey by:
- modelling the values, support colleagues to do so and in turn improve the outcomes for customers
- bringing the values to life through real life examples and experiences
- being proactive in facilitating positive conversations within their teams/directorates
- giving feedback into the network with ideas and suggestions – this will then be communicated to SLT at a monthly slot
- supporting new and innovative ways of working
Attributes you need to be a Change Champion
An influencer and actively identify, promote, and support change, championing all efforts and driving actions towards making change happen.
A mentor for change and provide guidance, motivation, emotional support, and role model why change is beneficial by offering explanations and/or answering questions.
An optimist – you must have a positive, upbeat outlook to support change and be a good role-model for colleagues, so that everyone is on board.
A problem solver by removing obstacles by communicating information about change and establishing any training needs that colleagues may have.
A communicator and give your colleagues a voice and represent your service.

How it works
You can commit as much time to the role as works for you, this may include:
- attending peer support and training sessions, potentially one per month (60 mins)
- accessing support resources and tools to share with colleagues and your team to support wellbeing
- reinforcing key messages- signposting to support advice and information
- taking feedback and suggestions from colleagues and feeding into SLT
- championing supportive conversations with colleagues and team members
- actively support colleagues without online access to receive information enabling them to give feedback and ensuring everyone is included
