Benefits
Benefits available to staff including cycle to work and eyecare vouchers.
Eyecare vouchers
Under the Display Screen Equipment Regulations (DSE) employers must make available free of charge eye tests and where necessary corrective appliances (glasses) where they are required for display screen use for anybody who is classed as a "user".
The council meets and exceeds its legal obligations by making available to anybody who uses display screen equipment at work the Specsaver DSE voucher scheme. The vouchers provide an eye test at Specsavers and a pair of single vision lenses where these are required for DSE use. The vouchers can also be used as a contribution towards other glasses.
If you require prescription protective safety eyewear at work the council uses the Specsaver Safety Voucher scheme to provide this.
Your manager can now request a voucher for you which you may take along to any branch of Specsavers to receive your eyetest and glasses, should you need them. The form your Manager should complete can be found on the HR Admin, Payroll and Recruitment Team Portal.
Cycle to Work Scheme
The Cycle to Work scheme is all about getting fit, having better transport options and saving money. Cyclescheme are the company who run the scheme for council employees. To take part all you need to do is choose a bike and safety equipment from a specific bike supplier in the county. The council buy the bike and equipment and you enter into a hire agreement, paying them 12 monthly instalments, which are tax and NI free.
Through the cycle to work scheme you can:
- make possible savings of up to 30% off the cost of a new bike and safety equipment (this will be dependant on your rate of tax and NI)
- spread the cost of your bike package over 12 monthly payments and save on income tax and national insurance
- choose any make and model of bike you want from local independent bike shops that are part of the scheme
- get more active and healthy whilst saving money and reducing your carbon footprint
The Cyclescheme website has a calculator that will give you a rough idea of what your monthly payments and anticipated savings will be, just visit: Cycle Scheme Employee calculator
