How to get involved with PRIDE - our LGBT+ employee network group that actively engages and contributes towards ensuring equality, acceptance and inclusion.

Our LGBT+ employee network group Pride Cumberland actively engages and contributes towards ensuring equality, acceptance and inclusion. 

Who can join the group and the benefits of joining 

Membership is currently open to any staff member who identities as LGBT+ or wishes to be an ally of the group.

Benefits of joining the group include:

  • you will be given an opportunity to make a real difference and play an important role in helping to improve your workplace and raise awareness
  • by being visible we will be able to support not only colleagues but also to our service users and customers who identify as LGBT+
  • ensure specific issues are understood and addressed
  • ensure your voice is heard and the ability to influence change and promote good practice
  • have an opportunity to network and meet people across the organisation
  • have a safe space to share lived experiences

How to join the group

If you are interested in becoming a member of the employee network or need confidential advice and support, please email our group chair at pride@cumberland.gov.uk  

When and where the group meets

Our meeting invites are sent directly to all group members. We also hold events and online sessions which are open to anyone on our iLearn booking system

You can get involved without attending a meeting and also get in touch by email.

Purpose of the group

  • people feel supported, safe and thrive in performing their roles during transformational change
  • employees are supported, feel valued and enabled to do their best
  • increased sense of trust, fairness, and inclusion
  • colleagues encouraged to talk openly about equality in the workplace without fear of discrimination or isolation
  • policies are reflective of equality, inclusion and diversity with supported solutions
  • improved workforce diversity and inclusion, where all people feel encouraged to apply and are supported to thrive in work
  • leaders and managers promote and practice equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace
  • early interventions to support colleagues
  • availability of a wider range of information, training, employee engagement and learning to enable employees to deliver a fully inclusive service
  • the council’s internal diversity employee networks have a visible and influential part of the organisation
  • employees have a mechanism and feel supported to report equality, diversity and inclusion issues
  • provide a forum for discussion and debate which draws on knowledge and experience
  • act as a driving force to promote continuous improvement
  • provide a place for staff to share experiences and receive peer support and to raise concerns and ideas in a safe and confidential environment

Cumbria Pride 

Cumbria Pride support the LGBT+ community in Cumbria. Our mission is to increase LGBT+ visibility with an aim of raising awareness and improving community understanding.
