We have provided some key 'need to know' information for line managers and supervisors to ensure a positive, welcoming and supportive induction for you and your teams into Cumberland Council.

Manager checklist

We’ve created a simple Managers Induction Checklist to help you lead yourself and your teams through the changes as we launch the new council.

The checklist prompts you on the key actions you need to take and the information you should share with your team.

Building confidence in digital skills

Many of us now work from home or across different locations, including council and non‑council sites. This means we rely more on virtual tools, software and online ways of working.

We don’t always have immediate access to colleagues when we’re not in the same office. You may be asked to use systems or software that feel unfamiliar. Wherever you work and whatever your role, it’s important to feel confident using digital tools to get your job done.

Support and learning resources

You can build your digital skills using a range of online self‑learning resources on iLearn. These include:

  • tutorial videos
  • guidance documents
  • step-by-step support you can follow at your own pace

Use these resources anytime to develop your digital knowledge when it suits you.

Core essential learning

iLearn is Cumberland Council’s Learning Management System (LMS). It’s integrated with your Microsoft 365 account, so you can sign in using your usual council login details.

Mandatory core essential training

All Cumberland Council employees must complete eight core essential learning modules. These modules are required either by law or to support our Council Plan.

For staff without ICT access

If you manage colleagues who do not have ICT access, you can use the manager toolkits designed to help you deliver the core essentials offline.

You’ll find these in iLearn under the ‘Core Essentials Managers Toolkit for non‑ICT users’ category.
