Overview
Our Future Cumberland is about changing how we work, not just how we are structured.
We are creating a consistent way of working that brings together our people, processes and purpose, so the council is fit for the future. We are being supported by Korn Ferry to undertake this work.
Why we are doing this
After local government reorganisation in 2023, we kept different job titles, structures and terms. This programme will:
- reduce duplication and confusion
- ensure fairness in our pay and reward approach
- help workforce planning and career development
What we are putting in place
To make this work, we will put in place:
- clearer job profiles with defined accountabilities
- career pathways you can see and use
- fair pay and grading
- a consistent performance management process
- Cumberland terms and conditions
- shared values to guide how we work
Who is included
The programme includes:
- all Cumberland Council employees
- hosted services staff, while they remain Cumberland employees
We are moving from around 1,200 job descriptions to about 400 role profiles to reduce duplication and make roles clearer.
