Request volunteering leave

How to request volunteer leave and what to do when you have identified opportunities for volunteering.

You have up to 2 days paid volunteering leave per year which can be taken as full days or half days totalling two days over an annual leave year and we have tried to make the process as simple as possible to encourage you to do this.

You can request volunteer leave through iTrent My HR.

If you don't have access (former districts Allerdale and Copeland), then complete the volunteer leave form.

Risk assessment

Please complete a risk assessment form with your line manager in advance of any volunteering activity. This makes sure that any potential risk such as lone working or personal safety have been identified and discussed.

Identify an opportunity and discuss with your line manager

You may be aware of a community group or charity you would like to volunteer with or you could look into potential opportunities.

Discuss your interest in volunteering with your line manager and, as soon as you can, potential date(s) for your volunteering activity.  This will enable your line manager to work with you to try to make sure that this is possible and will not adversely affect the running of the service.  We would expect line managers to positively support requests but where, on occasions, this is not possible, will ensure you fully understand why and support you in identifying an alternative time or opportunity.

Volunteering can be completed by an individual employee or a team development activity for a team or service.
