Alyssa Skelton's story
During my day at Carlisle Foodbank, I helped stock shelves, prepare food parcels for collection, and collect donations from local donation points, including the one at the Civic Centre.
Seeing the volume of food being prepared and understanding how many children and adults rely on this support highlighted just how important food banks are. It made me realise that food poverty can affect anyone and reinforced the need for more people to support their local food banks through donations and volunteering.
I found the experience incredibly rewarding and was grateful for the opportunity to use Cumberland Council's volunteering leave scheme. It inspired me to continue helping where I can, as even a small contribution can make a real difference to someone who is struggling.
