Florence Bell's story

I love listening to them read and hearing what they enjoy about the stories.  It is a really valuable to listen to children reading, especially if parents are not listening to them read or reading to them at home, this can happen for a whole range of reasons.  It is great to hear the children developing their reading skills across the year, hear their knowledge of language and expression developing.

The class teacher comments: 'The extra reading opportunities for the children are vital for their development.  Any help from Flo is much appreciated, and the children love it too.'

I also find the volunteering time very therapeutic, I am helping children develop a crucial life skill which is really satisfying, it is also a complete change in some ways from my job as a Health and Wellbeing Coach as I am in school with the children for an hour or so at a time, it provides respite from my usual busy morning schedule - a change is as good as a rest! I would recommend anyone looking for a volunteering opportunity to ask at their local school about helping our with reading!
