Considering a career change or retirement
Does this sound like you?
We often find ourselves in roles far removed from where we started or expected to be, which can be great, or can sometimes feel like we’ve lost our way. Alternatively, on reflection, we may recall things we were good or things we were interested in, which at the time did not seem to be possible as a career route.
A career change might be just what you need
You will have a wealth of transferrable skills, and it is never too late to change. It might be that you find yourself with different responsibilities, or perhaps no responsibilities, which now make change possible. Take time to explore the art of the possible.
Feeling rusty?
For many people, it may have been some time since they applied for a job or attended an interview of any kind. If this sounds like you, then you may be feeling anxious as to where your application is saved.
- was it an application form or CV?
- is your CV up to date?
- what are interviews like these days?
Worry not, help is at hand
Firstly, take a few deep breaths. You’ve got this. You know and can demonstrate so much more than you think.
Application, interview and presentation skills provides a number of resources designed to take you through the whole process of building and/or updating a CV, completing application forms and preparing for interview. Some interviews also include a presentation element. If this fills you with fear, then again, help is at hand on how to prepare and execute your presentation.
Remember, use your allies, colleagues, friends and family to support, test and practice.
Retirement
Your reflections may lead you to consider the possibility of retirement. Before making any decisions, it is vital to understand what your pension is worth, when you can access it and to get some sound independent financial advice.
If you then decide that this is for you, then pre-retirement courses can be very helpful in helping you to understand and make that transition from working life to retirement.
